(Minutes.)
M. Fanfield
It appears from
15597/95 Haughing
that the lowest class of Constables are paid $12 a year more than the sepoys of the Hongshing Reg.
That $12 rather more than made up for not having the remittance which the soldiers have, privilege,
as
in
1895
as the rate
was over
of exchange
between India & Hongshing exceeded $1922 to $100; [The rate in July was $196]; for the soldier is in the habit of remitting rather over $60 a year (according to 15597/95), say $1866 which at Rs 150 = $1344 to Rs 100, gives him in India,
